Enhanced " Reference Cost " Feature now available
Starting from 19 October 2026, we will launch an enhanced version of the "Reference Cost" feature for your securities holdings. Details are as follows:
(Note: Stocks purchased or deposited prior to this date will retain their existing "Reference Cost.")
Key enhancements
- The system will automatically calculate and update your Reference Cost and shareholding quantity based on the stock's previous closing price after depositing shares via a Stock Movement.
- The system will automatically calculate and update your Reference Cost and shareholding quantity based on the final offer price of the new shares after successfully subscribing to new shares via an Initial Public Offering (IPO).
- When your account has corporate actions, capital adjustments, stock transfers into your account, or manual orders result in an increase or decrease in your shareholding, the system will use the Reference Cost price from the statement for calculations. It will automatically updating your Reference Cost price and stock holdings to ensure they match the statement.
Notes:
- Reference Cost is calculated based on the weighted average cost method:
Reference Cost = [(Previous Reference Cost × Previous Quantity) + (Average Execution Price × Purchased Quantity)] ÷ (Previous Quantity + Purchased Quantity)
This is the average cost you paid for the stock you still own, excluding commissions, exchange levies, stamp duty and any extra fees. It only counts the money you spend to buy the shares. If you sell some of your shares, the reference cost for the ones you have left does not change. Instead, the money you make or lose from that sale is counted separately as a realized gain or loss.
- If you need to adjust the Reference Cost, you can update it manually.
