The US military action against Venezuela caused international oil prices to fluctuate during the Asian session, resulting in a mixed performance for Hong Kong stocks in the morning. The HSI opened 22 points higher but then fluctuated, closing down 21 points or 0.1% at 26,316; the HSCEI fell 17 points or 0.2% to 9,151; and the HSTECH dropped 10 points or 0.2% to 5,726. Total turnover was HK$155.52bn. Oil stocks CNOOC (0883) and PetroChina (0857) fell 3.5% and 4.3% respectively. SMIC (0981) saw its share price rise nearly 2% after the National Integrated Circuit Fund increased its holdings to 9.25% off-exchange.
