After opening slightly higher by 17 points, the Hang Seng Index fell 94 points to 26,423 before recovering to close at 26,633 points, up 115 points, or 0.43%. The China Enterprises Index rose 56 points, or 0.60%, to 9,499. The Hang Seng Tech Index performed relatively strongly, rising 120 points, or 1.91%, to 6,443. Half-day trading volume totaled 175.7 billion yuan. Metal stocks performed particularly well. Zijin Mining (2899), driven by rising copper prices, rose 6.28% to a record high of HK$31.5. CMOC (3993) soared 13.33% to HK$14.2. Newly listed Chery Auto (9973) closed at HK$33.8, 9.9% above its IPO price of HK$30.75.
