China's second-quarter GDP growth exceeded expectations. At midday, the Hang Seng Index closed at 24,250 points, up 47 points or 0.2%; the Hang Seng Tech Index closed at 5,305 points, up 0.41% or 21 points; the China Enterprises Index closed at 8,741 points, up 0.1% or 8 points. The total market turnover at midday was about HKD 144 billion. China Merchants Securities (6099), which rose 5.39% after receiving approval from the China Securities Regulatory Commission to provide virtual asset trading services; CSPC Pharmaceutical Group (1093), which increased 3.88%, benefiting from capital inflows into the pharmaceutical sector. Other sectors saw a general pullback in property and photovoltaic stocks, while some pharmaceutical stocks performed well.
