The Hong Kong stock market saw an initial rise followed by a decline on the last trading day of September, closing at 26,597 points in the first half of the day, down 26 points or 0.1%. The China Enterprises Index closed at 9,442 points, down 12 points or 0.1%, while the Hang Seng Tech Index closed at 6,359 points, up 35 points or 0.5%. Market turnover for the first half of the day was HK$159.2 billion. Jiangxi Copper (358) rose 6.4%, benefiting from rising copper prices. Chinese chip stocks continued to perform well, with Hua Hong Semiconductor (1347) rising 11.9% and SMIC (981) rising 3.3%.
