Hong Kong stocks traded sideways but held steady in the morning session. The Hang Seng Index opened 10 points lower, then rose as much as 133 points to a high of 26,291, closing up 51 points or 0.2% at 26,209. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 19 points or 0.2% to 9,277, while the Hang Seng Tech Index fell 12 points or 0.2% to 5,910. Total turnover for the morning session was HK$120.3 billion. Baidu (9888), whose patents across all fields of artificial intelligence have ranked first in China for seven consecutive years, saw its share price rise 6.5% to close at HK$126.2.
