Hong Kong stock market fluctuated today, though trading volume decreased significantly. The HSI opened 8 points higher but then fell as much as 67 points. It closed up 56 points, or 0.2%, at 25,291; the HSCEI rose 23 points, or 0.3%, to 8,781; and the HSTECH gained 1 point to 5,403. Total turnover was HK$84.88bn. Following the election of a right-wing hardliner as Chilean president, market attention focused on lithium mine supply, with lithium stocks Ganfeng Lithium (1772) and Tianqi Lithium (9696) rising 5.6% and 6.9% respectively. Reports indicate that Apple (AAPL.US) plans to significantly expand its iPhone production lines, leading to gains of Lens Technology (6613) and Cowell Electronics (1415), which rose 3.2% and 2.4% respectively.
