The Hang Seng Index opened 66 points higher and then extended its gains, rising as much as 225 points to a high of 26,606. It closed the morning session up 197 points, or 0.75%, at 26,578. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 35 points, or 0.4%, to 8,849, and the Hang Seng Tech Index gained 53 points, or 1%, to 5,162. Total turnover for the morning session was HK$121.827 billion. Baidu (9888) reported a 42% year-on-year drop in non-GAAP net profit for the fourth quarter of last year, slightly better than the upper limit of market expectations; the stock rebounded 0.7% in the morning session.
