Market Roundup
The Hong Kong stock market was volatile and slightly weak in the morning session. The Hang Seng Index (HSI) opened 3 points higher, then initially dropped 144 points to a low of 23,496 points before reversing upward, reaching a high of 23,710 points with a gain of 70 points. By midday, the HSI fell 59 points or 0.3% to 23,581 points. The China Enterprises Index declined 22 points or 0.3% to 8,570 points, and the Hang Seng Tech Index dropped 33 points or 0.6% to 5,348 points. The total market turnover for the half-day session was HK$110.149 billion. Automobile stocks performed well, with BYD (1211) rising 3.5% and Geely (175) up 2.4%.
