The Hang Seng Index closed at 24,999 points, down 202 points or 0.8%; the Hang Seng Tech Index ended at 5,644 points, down 53 points or 0.9%; and the China Enterprises Index finished at 8,917 points, down 103 points or 1.1%. Total market turnover was about HK$391.5 billion. The market was dragged lower by tech stocks—Meituan (3690) in particular fell far short of expectations, its share price plunging over 12%; other internet and tech names such as Alibaba (9988) and JD.com (9618) also declined. By contrast, SMIC (981) bucked the trend, jumping nearly 10.7% and helping to lift chip stocks.
