The White House's TikTok Disposal Order Stirred US Stocks
US stocks closed lower for more than three consecutive days, with the S&P 500 index down 0.5% at 6,604.72 points. The day's focus was on the White House's signing of an executive order disposing of TikTok's US operations, requiring its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell its US assets to American investors to alleviate national security concerns. Market concerns are that this move will exacerbate the risk of US-China tech regulatory tensions and potentially trigger more asset restructurings among multinational companies. It has also prompted investors to reassess their allocations to technology stocks, further exacerbating the volatility of the recent AI-driven rally.
